Kenyan elections are scheduled for March 2013. Various people in Dadamac and Minciu Sodas remember both the violence and the conflict resolution work from last time. It would seem that if we can learn lessons from last time then it would help people to plan ahead.

The initiators:

No action group or study group has been initiated yet, but a few resources have been gatherd here, following some emails people exchanged esporessing concerns.

Following the post-election violence in April 2011 the  idea of rebuilding the razed market as a peace and reconciliation project emerged from discussions during our weekly UK-Nigeria online meetings. .

During the crisis the market was destroyed causing much hardship and loss of life to the local community. Many traders lost their livlihoods and their family's sole income. The concept is to bring together the Muslim and the Christianty communities who will work together to rebuild an improved Kafanchan Market.

Dadamac UK-Nigeria team meetings are held on Skype, and are typed. They have a set agenda and last for one hour. You can read the unfolding story of all the community initiatives covered in these meetings, mainly through Nikki's blog and Frances' blog (with a few gaps filled in through Pamela's blog which usually covers other topics).

This initiative was set up in response to the sad and unexpected news of Maria's sudden death on February 21st 2011. As people shared the news, and responded to it, there was a feeling that, somehow, we should do something to remember her and see how her work could be continued. Pamela and Nikki decided that what they could do (from the Dadamac UK office) was to set up a space at Dadamac.net where people could contribute information about Maria's life and work, and explore possible collaborative ways to carry it forward.
